Hello, young Padawan
Today, we’re going to make some cute and rather original raisin shortbread cookies. “Palets aux raisins”, or “palets des dames”, are small, traditional French cookies from Alsace, a beautiful French region.
Delicious and fragrant, they’re usually made around Christmas time. And since Santa’s just around the corner, I thought it was time to share this lovely recipe with you, and believe me, you’re going to love them so much you’ll be shouting “cock-a-doodle-doo!” without even being French!
Palets aux raisins, Chill Style
2 eggs
3/4 cup flour
5 tbsp cornstarch
3/4 cup dried currants
4 tbsp rum
1/2 cup butter, at room temperature
1/2 cup powder sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla powder
a pinch of salt
Recipe
Soak the raisins in rum for an hour, taking the opportunity to leave the necessary butter out of the fridge.
Preheat the oven to 350-375°F.
In a bowl, cream together the softened butter, vanilla, sugar, and salt. Once smooth, add the eggs one at a time, then the flour, cornstarch, and finally the raisins and rum.
Lightly butter and flour a baking sheet—if you’re using a silicone baking mat, neither is necessary. Drop small dollops of dough onto the baking sheet using two spoons, leaving some space between them, as the cookies will flatten during baking and may touch. That said, it’s not a problem; they’ll still be delicious!
Bake them for about ten minutes. Remove them from the oven while still warm and place them on a wire rack or a thick tea towel to cool. Once cooled, they can be stored in a metal box, while listening to Rammstein.
And here’s a lovely recipe to make with family or friends, to snack on while watching a good movie, and thus make the most of a gray and rainy Sunday, of which there are quite a few this time of year.
For those suffering from seasonal depression, hang in there: you’ve done the most challenging part. Just one more month and we’ll start gaining more daylight. Don’t give up!
I wish you a wonderful weekend, and I’ll see you next Friday for more adventures on this blog.
XO 🥨
